Five days a week you will find me behind the counter at Kaufmann's Streamborn, a flyshop in Bellevue, Washington. The other two days, I am swinging a fly somewhere for steelhead. |

Over the years I have had the pleasure of watching my fishing partners tussle with a good number of steelhead. And after all those years, I've discovered it is just as much fun to watch your partner get mugged as it is for you to feel that grab. It is just as exciting to watch his rod bury to the cork and witness line disappear from his reel as it is to be the one tied into that fish. You feel just as much disappointment when the fish comes unpinned prematurely and just as much jubilation when it does not. |

However, the above pales in comparison when the other fisherman is not a routine fishing buddy but a client. As a guide, I am responsible for putting my clients into the best water, showing them how to properly present a fly for steelhead and hopefully guiding them into a steelhead...of which there is no bigger thrill, no higher high. |
