spey casting instruction

Over a dozen years ago, on a guided trip down the Skagit, I picked up a Spey rod for the first time.  About 6 years later, I picked one up again and have not put it down since.  A couple of years later, once I felt I was competent and could offer something to the aspiring two-handed rod fisherman, I began teaching.
My goal is to get you fishing as quickly as possible with little frustration.  I would except, as should you, that after 6 hours over one or two sessions, you will be able to fish.  You may not be able to bomb out 100' casts and you will have many hours of time on the water to go before you become proficient but you will be able to cover the water in an effective manner.
I teach the PNW Style/Skagit Technique.  I can start you from scratch or I can adapt your own style to the techniques that will make you an efficient and consistent Speycaster.
I am proficient in and teach the following casts:

Rates: per person
3-hour session 6-hour session
Left or Right Bank Left & Right Bank
$90 $150
All tackle provided.  All classes are one-on-one unless noted.  We will meet up at one of a handful of locations on the Skykomish or Snoqualmie Rivers.

The Swung Fly's Comprehensive Steelhead  Package

Picking up a Spey rod for the first time on the day of your guided trip is not the best way to get the most out of the experience.  Clients that have not picked up a Spey rod and are not experienced steelheaders, when we hit the water for the day, the single-handed rod is the tool of choice.
If you wish to learn how to read the water and properly present a fly for steelhead, being comfortable with your casting is a must.  But then there those that want to learn how to read and cover the water and properly present the fly while doing it with it a two-handed rod  For those that wish to do both, at once, I offer a complete flyfishing for steelhead with Spey rod package.
Package for One or Two People Includes:
  • Prior to the trip, one 4-hour session.  Left & Right bank.
  • One full day of guided flyfishing.
  • After the trip, one 2-hour fault fixing session.  Left or Right bank.
